Aly A. Misha'l

Abstract

Benchmarking is a systematic method to improve the quality of services in an inter-organizational co-operation, a method of organizational learning/ exchange of experience.

Quality of results, processes and structures are improved by systematic comparison between partner organizations, or between organizations that fulfill comparable tasks, learning from success of other organizations, and adoption of solutions that proved successful in other organizations.

Benchmarking, or comparative analysis, is looked upon as a management tool to:
- Compare practices used by several organizations to identify best practices.
- Identify both the problem areas in their business processes, and opportunities for improvement.
