Yousef Ahmad Bani Yasseen

This study attempts to describe Ummayad reactions to the proposed Ameriya and Hamudiya Caliphates as the Ummayads sought to restore their authority in Andalucia. The Amir coup and the restoration of the Umayyad Caliphate under the caliphs al’Mahdi and al’Musta’in are described, as is the establishment of the Hamudiya Caliphate and the principle elements of its claims to legitimachy. The research ends with the failure of the al-murtada movement, the last attempt by the Umayyads and their supporters to revive the Umayyad Caliphate, which was ultimately abolished by the Hamudiyeen.
