Ma‘an in the Byzantine Period in the Light of Historical and Archaeological Evidence (324-636 A.D.)

This research seeks to shed some light on the history of Ma‘an during the Byzantine period in the light of historical and archaeological evidence (324-636 A.D). It examines the relations that Ma‘an had with such neighboring areas as Petra and Udhruh, settlement patterns, the importance of Ma‘an as a commercial site between southern Syria and Arabia and the Arab tribes that inhabited the area.
This study is based on the historical evidence in the Byzantine and Islamic historical sources and the archaeological excavations that have been conducted in many areas of Ma‘an and that have provided us with important information about this period.
