Author Guidelines

The Manuscript

 

1.       Submission

The author should register in the Journal website https://journals.ju.edu.jo/JJHA. The authors should submit his article using Microsoft Word. The manuscript should also be uploaded to the Journal website after registration. The full name(s) of the author(s) should appear on the very first page of the manuscript.

 

2.       Size and Format


The manuscript should not exceed 30 pages and should be typed single-sided on A4 or 8.5 x 11 inch white paper, double-spaced throughout, with the page number at the bottom of the page.

 

3.       Name(s) of Author(s)

The manuscript should include the name(s) of the author(s) in three parts: first name, middle (father's) name and third (family) name, and should include the institutional position and affiliation of the author(s) and a full address for correspondence including e-mail address telephone number.

 

4.       Abstract


Two abstracts, one in English and the other in Arabic, are required for all papers, and should not exceed 150-200 words. It should summarize the entire article, outlining the methodological issues or questions addressed, and the paper's main arguments or conclusions. It should also include keywords where appropriate. The number of keywords should range between three and five.

 

5.       Language


Expressions or terms having any implications to discrimination on the  basis of religion, race, gender or colour must be avoided.

 

 

 

6.       Figures and Tables



Each table and figure should appear on a separate page and should have a complete, descriptive title, and each table column should have an appropriate heading. The place where a table or figure is to be inserted in the printed text should be clearly indicated. The author is responsible about any permissions and copyrights of the photos and figures.

 

7.       Appendices


In most cases, and due to space limits, appendices and questionnaires are not published. However, the appendices will be referred to within the body of the text.

 

8.       Written Text

The adopted system for printing the manuscript can be summed up as follows:

The title of the manuscript, name(s) of author(s), full contact address, abstract, keywords, the main text, acknowledgements, appendices, sources, titles of figures followed by tables. Figures, maps and pictures are not to be included within the text, but can be attached in the end of the text. An asterisk is to be inserted above the author'(s) name(s) for identification at the bottom of the page. Apart from the footnotes of tables, all other footnotes are to be referred to using Arabic numerals.

 

9.       References

Writing of References: For papers submitted within the field of history, references are to be written in detail "in footnotes" at the bottom of the page. As for those papers submitted within the field of archaeology, references are to be written within the body of the paper (e.g. family name, year of publication and page number). A list of references (Bibliography) is to be arranged alphabetically at the end of the paper.

Arrangement of References: References are alphabetically arranged according to the author's surname, or the author's first name or the editor's name. In the event that the author's or the editor's name is unknown, the institution responsible for publishing the reference is to be mentioned instead; for instance, "The Academy of Management Journal." If more than one reference is written by the same author, these references are to be arranged according to priority of the year of publication. References published in the same year can be distinguished by adding a small letter next to the year, e.g., (1980a), (1980b) with the author's name repeated each time.

 

Examples:

Books: The following method is to be adopted: The author's family name, followed by first name, year of publication, book title (bold typed and italicized), place of publication and name of publisher.

 

Periodicals: The following method is to be adopted: The author's surname, followed by first name, year of publication, title of the article (not in italics), title of the periodical (bold, capitalized and italicized), volume number and page numbers.

 

Chapter of a Book: The adopted method is as follows: The author's surname, followed by first name, year of publication, title of the article (not in italics), title of the book, editor's first name, followed by last name, publisher and page numbers.

 

Unpublished Works: These include working papers, Master's Theses, Doctoral Dissertations and papers delivered at conferences.

 

10.    Electronic Submissions

The final version of the manuscript should be sent via the Journal website and email.

 

 

 

11.    Offprints


Each author receives 3 copies of the journal in which the article has been published free of charge. However, additional copies of the journal may be purchased by the author(s).

 

12.    Copyright


It is a condition of publication that all rights for publication are to be exclusively reserved for The Jordan Journal of History and Archaeology. Therefore, the journal is considered as the owner of the published research and the article should not published elsewhere.

 

13.    Curriculum Vitae

Each researcher should submit a curriculum vitae of about 50 words once the article has been accepted for publication. The curriculum vitae should include the name of the university where the author obtained the highest academic degree, present institutional affilication, official position and research interests. The first author should include a permanent address and e-mail account, information that is optional for other coauthors

 

14.    Miscellaneous

The arrangement of papers in The Jordan Journal of History and Archaeology will follow the guidelines adopted and approved by the journal's Editorial Board:

 

-      The viewpoints appearing in The Jordan Journal of History and Archaeology  are solely those of the author(s) and do not necessarily express the policy of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research or the University of Jordan.

-      The author(s) should submit a written certification that the article has not been submitted to any other institution or journal.

-      The published papers are to be kept within the database of the University of Jordan and are to be subject to governing by pertinent regulations.

-      The Editorial Board reserves the right to edit the articles for style, grammar, etc.

-      The decision of the Editorial Board regarding the publication of the article is final. The Editorial Board is by no means required to give justifications to their verdict.

-      The author(s) will be required to reimburse the journal for the cost of evaluation if they choose to withdraw the article after it has been assessed.


-      The In case the article was taken from a PhD Dissertation or MA Thesis, It should be noted in the first page footnotes.

 

 

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in Microsoft Word document file format.
  3. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  4. The instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed

     

  5. Bibliography in the end of the article.
