The Sources of Psychological Stress and Its Relationship to Adjustment Strategies among Syrian Adolescence Refugees In Jordan
Abstract
The study aimed to identify the sources of psychological stress and its relationship adjustment strategies among Syrian adolescence refugees in Jordan,. The sample consisted of (441) from the (7-11) grades. The results indicated the followings:
- The sources of emotional stress ranked at first with (high) level, followed by the sources of physical, personal, academic, and social stress, respectively, with moderate level. however, the stressors of(economic, family, and behaviors) ranked third with low level.
- The adjustment strategies among adolescences ranked,respectively with (confrontational strategy) and came with (high) level, followed by religious , problem solving, social supports, leisure time and relaxation withdrawal or avoidant, and emotional release strategies respectively with moderate level.
- Moreover, the results revealed significant differences between the sources of psychological stress and adjustment strategies among Syrian adolescence by the variables of (gender, age, economic level before being refugees, and after being refugees).
- Significant differences were found by gender in the (family stressors and emotional stressors)in favor of females. However, significant differences were found for(economic stressors and behavioral stressors) in favore of males.
- Significant differences were found for the variable of age regarding the (stressors of education, emotional stressors , and behavioral stressors),in favor of 17 years old.
- Significant differences were found for the variables of (personal stressors ,educational, emotional, behavioral, and physical stressors) among adolescents for the variable of (the economical level before being refugees) in favor of high economic level. However, family stressors were found to be significant among adolescences in favor of low economic stressors.
- Significant differences were found between gender of adolescences in the adjustment strategies for the variables of(avoidance or withdrawn, and emotional release of stressors) in favor of females.
-A relationship were found between all of the sources of psychological stressors and adjustment strategies among Syrian adolescence of(avoidance or withdrawn, and emotional release of stressors, and inappropriate behavior strategies), also a relationship were found between (emotional stressors) and all of adjustments strategies.
