Agricultural Conditions in al-Jazirah, Upper Mesopotamia in the Umayyad Period

Abstract


This study sheds light on the agricultural conditions in the province of al-
Jazirah in Upper Mesopotamia during the Umayyad period. The study
encompasses the geographical location of the region, its boundaries,
topography and climate. Then it shows the strategic economic importance the
region during the Umayyad period, examines the sources of water and
irrigation projects that the Umayyad state carried out and addresses the
important agricultural crops that were produced there.
