دراسة تحليلية لأثر المساعدات والقروض الأوروبية على الاقتصاد الفلسطيني

Abstract:

The study aims at highlighting the effect of the European aid on the Palestinian economy in the aftermath of Oslo agreement. Further, it shows the size and nature of this aid, and how it can be affected by the dominant economic, political situation. It also highlights some idea on  external and internal obstacles hindering an ideal use of the aid.

The study revealed some significant findings, for instance, in light of the availability of the appropriate atmosphere and political optimism, the rate of aid and European loans had been moving hand in hand with the rate of economic growth. Despite the improved performance of the European support, the Israeli siege and enormous losses of the Palestinian economy might explain the noticeable deceleration in the economic growth rates.

         The empirical results of the model unveiled also that the marginal effect of the European aids and loans in spite of its importance in the total international aid was significant. However, it had a positive impact on the economic growth and development, reflected in the rate of growth in GDP, especially in the last years of the study period. Any increase in the rate of European aid by 1% Lead to an increase in GDP by 2.56%. This was due to the style and direction of this assistance and that contributed as most of the aid were for relief, budget deficit, emergency purposes, and social assistance, which contributed to easing the poverty and unemployment, and to support other productive.
