Transformational Leadership and its Impact on the Effectiveness of Employees’ Behavior in the Public and Private Jordanian Hospitals

Abstract


This study aimed to identify the extent of adoption of the Jordanian public and private hospitals transformational leadership style, and the effectiveness of the behavior of its employees. Also, the study aimed at studying the impact of the transformational leadership variables (idealized influnce, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized considration) on the effectiveness of employees’ behavior in the public and private Jordanian hospitals. The population of the study covered all the Jordanian public and private hospitals, in which a sample consists of (249) surveys were distributed to all levels of the upper and middle management (general director, director of a department or its equivalent, head of a department or its equivalent), and the number of the returned surveys were (188) which considered for statistical analysis, covering (75%) response rate. The results showed that the adoption of the Jordanian public and private hospitals transformational leadership style is high, and the effectiveness of the behavior of its employees also high. In addition, the study found that all of the transformational leadership variables impacted the effectiveness of employees’ behavior, and the intellectual stimulation variable was the most influencing variable. The study also found that the degree of adopting transformational leadership was higher in the private hospitals comparing with the public ones. Also, there was no statistical significant in adopting transformational leadership pattern in the public and private Jordanian hospitals due to the demographic variables (gender, age, qualification, and managerial level); whereas the study found a statistical significant in adopting transformational leadership pattern in the public and private Jordanian hospitals due to the experience variable.
