This research has focused on biological denitrification method using autotrophic bacteria in a reactor containing sulfur/limestone and using sodium bicarbonate as carbon source and sodium phosphate as phosphoric nutrient. Through the labor work, it had been concluded that sulfur/limestone Reactor can be used successfully for biological treatment to remove nitrate from groundwater whereas all hydraulic retention times in the reactor (6, 9, 12, 18, 24) h gave good results in removal of nitrate by the biological method, and the best was hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 18 hours that is for concentration of nitrate in raw water 200 mg ∕L.
