Abstract

This study aimed at investigating the impact of of "Science as an inquiry process" Approach based on Standards Movement in Science Education on the Acquisition of Scientific Process in Light of Cognitive Preferable Style among basic Stage Students. The study population consisted of the ninth-grade students at Al-Omaryah Secondary School of University Directorate of Education. The School was intentionally choosen. The study sample consisted of (46) students divided into two section: one of them was used as an experimental group of (23), and the other as a control group of (23). To achieve the purpose of the study, the following study instruments were applied: (a test of Acquisition of Scientific Process, a test of Cognitive Preferable). To test the hypotheses, (2*3) covariance analysis (ANCOVA) was conducted.
The results of the study showed that there is a significant statistical difference for the advantage of the experimental group in Acquisition of Scientific Process. The results also showed that there isnot a significant statistical difference for the Cognitive Preferable, in addition to absence of interaction between strategy and Cognitive Preferable. To find out the size of strategy impact, ETA Square and ratio of variance interpreter in each of the dependent variable: Acquisition of Scientific Process (30,4%) were used , It turned out that the effect size was large. In the light of the results, the researcher recommended that Science as an inquiry process Approach should be adopted, and taxtbooks content and activaties should be organized to commensurate with the teaching strategy based on inquiry. This action requires rehabilitation of teachers to prepare learning situations by inquiry strategy
