Attitudes of Faculty Staff Members in Jordan’s Public Intermediate University Colleges towards Professional Development Programs

Abstract


The study aimed at Attitudes of Faculty Staff Members in Jordan’s Public Intermediate University Colleges towards Professional Development Programs, and the relationship between these attitudes and the variables of gender and years of experience. To achieve the objectives of the study, a questionnaire, including (55) paragraphs, has been prepared. This questionnaire comprises four fields: The supervising authority on the professional development programs, the content of the programs of the professional development, the trainers of these programs and the methods of the professional development programs. After testing the reliability tool of the study, it has been applied on the study sample that consists of (267) members where they have been selected by random sampling method. Afterward, the data, which were collected during the study, has been analyzed.
The results of the study have illustrated that the attitudes of faculty staff members towards professional developments programs in Jordan’s public intermediate university colleges were of high-level in all fields and in most of its paragraphs. The study has also shown statistically significant differences at the level of (α≤0.05) in favor of males in the field of ‘The supervising authority on the professional development programs’ only as well as the presence of significant differences among the categories of the years of experience in favor of category (less than 5 years). In the light of these results, the study has proposed a number of recommendations including: continuity of the professional development programs is one of the requirements of the profession of University teaching that must be emphasized throughout the career of a faculty member in order to ensure the proper level of the profession requirements.
