The Extent of Performance in the Skills of Calligraphy and the General Calligraphy Appearance Acquired by Fourth Grade Students (A Diagnostic Study)

Abstract


This study aims at measuring the pupils' achievement in the realm of the already specified forms of calligraphy designed to be learnt by 4th Grade students. This study attempted to answer the following questions:

1.         What was the level of achievement for those who accomplished the skill of calligraphy?

2.         What was the level of achievement for those who accomplished the skill of general calligraphy appearance?

3.         Were there any statistic differences in the level of achievement for the skill of calligraphy between males and females for those who have finished the 4th Grade?

4.         Were there any statistic differences in the level of achievement for the skill of general calligraphy appearance between males and females for those who have finished the 4th Grade?

To accomplish this study two tests were designed: the first was calligraphy and the second, general calligraphy appearance.

The researcher selected a sample for the study consisting of 469 pupils.                    

This sample was selected from a population amounting to 5407 male and female pupils selected from the Directorate of Education in the province of Al-Karak during the school year 2005/2006.

All the test papers were corrected and the statistics treated. In this respect, the results showed that the ratio for skill of calligraphy was (51.14). whereas the ratio of the general calligraphy appearance was (50.89).

The researcher concluded that there were statistical differences between the level of males and females in achieving the skills of calligraphy in favor of the males. On the other hand, the level of general calligraphy appearance was in favor of the females.
