The Effects of Mental Imagination Along with Training Program on Learning Some Fundamental Basketball Skills for 14-16 Years-old

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of mental imagination aligned with training programs approach on learning some fundamental basketball skills (shooting, passing and dribbling) and to compare it with the traditional method of learning. The sample consisted of 22 male players (aged 14-16 years) divided into two equal groups. The first group (experimental) was trained by using a training program with an imaginary part, while the second group (control) was trained by using only the training program. Data were analyzed using PC software package SPSS, where means, standard deviations, person correlation coefficient and t-test. The results showed that there were significant differences between the pre and post tests in favor of the post test, the experimental group performed significantly higher than the control group in the jump shot and passing tests. Concerning the differences between the two groups (in the post tests), the experimental group performed significantly higher in the post test in the three tests while the control group performed significantly higher in only the dribbling test. It was recommended that using the mental imagination along with the training program as it affects the learning and acquiring basketball skills.
