Effect of Some Natural and Synthetic Dusts Against Khapra Beetle Trogoderma granarium Everts

In this study, the efficacy of eleven natural (Limiston, Ninivite, Lime, Quartze sand, Gypsum, Normal sand and Red clay) and synthetic (Carborandum, Dental stone, Silica gel and Celite) inert dusts was laboratory tested against 3rd instar larvae and adult of khapra beetle Trogoderma granarium Everts

Results showed that Silica gel gave the highest Mortality percentage to adult insects (95.43%) which insignificantly differ than those of Celite, Ninivite, Dental stone, Carborandom and limestone dusts while Gypsum dust gave the lowest mortality percentage (42.00%).

On the other hand Carborandom gave the highest mortality percentage to the 3rd instar larvae (44.39%) which insignificantly differ than those of Silica gel and Celite (43.09 and 40.94%, respectively) whereas Limestone dust gave the lowest mortality percentage (11.37%). It was found that an increase in both concentration dusts and exposure period will yield an increase in the mortality percentage of insect for all inert dusts.
